That being said, most hospitals are very open to having a photographer present, and I’ve worked in various environments! Myth 7: Birth Photography Is Only for "Perfect" Births
One thing I always emphasize is that every birth is perfect in its own way. Whether your baby arrives after a planned C-section, an induction, or an unexpected change in plans, your story deserves to be captured. I’ve photographed births that unfolded exactly as planned and others that took unexpected turns, and they were all equally beautiful. The birth of your child is unique, and it’s those little details—the ones you can’t predict—that make it so special.
MYTH 8: BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY IS ALL ABOUT THE "CROWNING SHOT"
One of the most common misconceptions I hear is that birth photography is focused on capturing only the crowning moment or graphic images of delivery. Let me set the record straight: birth photography is so much more than that! My goal isn’t just to document a single moment—it’s to capture the emotions, connection, and beauty of the entire birth story. In fact, most of my clients prefer not to have the crowning moment photographed at all, and that’s completely okay! What I’m really focusing on are the moments that make up the bigger picture: the look of love and encouragement in your partner’s eyes, the tears of relief and joy when your baby is placed in your arms, and the way you cradle your newborn for the first time. Birth photography is about preserving the atmosphere of the room, the strength and resilience you showed, and the overwhelming sense of love as your baby entered the world. Every family is different, and I always tailor my approach based on your comfort level and what moments are most meaningful to you! Birth photography isn’t about a single shot—it’s about telling your unique story from start to finish in a way that makes you feel proud and empowered when you look back on these memories!
